Can you re install windows and check your partitions? this problem is not something caused on ubuntu installation. As a tip it may having separate drives for your system and for the boot,

When installing on windows you must have permissions not only for this. Are you an administrator or a user? This is the way I also installed the ubuntu. It does not need separate partition. It is easy, If you have permissions no issues will be generated. Check your windows account, some windows computers distribute with a “user” account. Use your admin account. It does not need internet connection while you install but for other updates and components like LAMP, internet connection will be needed.

I have not tried it as an application but you can use VMware or any other virtual machine and you can install it easily.

      Dear Vinodh,

If you can select ubuntu it boot ubuntu and the password you given on installation on windows should be given when you log in.

but if you can’t boot, it may have a issue, please boot windows 7 and uninstall ubuntu, this may take few seconds only. now follow the article and install. you will be able to work on ubuntu this way.

      regards

Can you check whether your System and Boot drives are same on windows. It may be an installation error. I have not faced this before. Please uninstall the current Ubuntu from your Windows Vista Programmes and try it again.

    Hi,
can ubuntu be installed onto genuine windows 7 without actually losing it?

It is installed like another program and use specific folder as its system drive. It is not affecting your OS, you can uninstall it using programs and features in control panel of windows.
